Let’s explore the fascinating realm of Agouti rats, particularly the striking Black Eyed Silver Agoutis. These exceptional rats possess a unique genetic makeup, characterized by their A-cmcm (Agouti, with two copies of the Marten allele at the c-locus) or A-cmc (Agouti, with one copy of the Marten allele and one of the Albino allele at the c-locus) genetic configurations. Black Eyed Silver Agoutis also carry at least one copy of the black eye gene, denoted as A-Be-cmcm or A-Be-cmc.
These mesmerizing rodents exhibit a mid-grey body color with subtle heathering, devoid of any hints of brown or blue undertones. Their fur displays intriguing variations, with the face featuring a lighter hue on the whisker bed, above the eyes, and behind the ears. The belly sports a slightly paler shade of grey compared to the top, creating a harmonious contrast. Their foot color matches the top, completing their captivating appearance. When it comes to their eyes, Black Eyed Silver Agoutis can have either pink or black eyes, each adding its own unique charm.
However, it’s essential to note that we’ve made the decision to discontinue breeding with Agouti lines. This choice stems from the dominance of the Agouti gene in our breeding program. We always prioritize the health and well-being of our rats, striving to provide the best possible companions for our fellow rat enthusiasts.
